Dante is a young man that has had his entire life dictated to him through the lenses of honor and tradition. A strict religious upbringing by his father was compounded by the fact that the Falzone Family had a secret duty to protect a sacred holy relic of the church that they guard. He has known little else to life beyond that his fate is to be the leader of the Falzone family and protect both the Key Maiden and the sacred relic at all cost.

He is well learned and refined as the son of a ruling family (although they are mafia, they are basically equivalent to nobles and the aristocracy—Burlone is in in the Kingdom of Italy, but the Italian government has no say in the affairs of Burlone as it is ruled by the Church in Rome,) but was never allowed to be a child. Even at a young age, Dante struggled with opening up and getting closer to others. He was known for his unusual calmness, being able to keep his emotions from showing even in times of unexpected circumstances. A victim of being kidnapped and held for ransom as a child (along with Nicola), Dante managed to show incredible restraint and control with his calmness.

In truth, this calm and put-together personality is a mask that is a result of what Dante has been expected to be since the moment he was born, the next leader of the Falzone. Dante grew up very isolated from others his age, only having had his cousin Nicola (and while they became close, Nicola eventually ended up serving in WWI which separated them for several years.)

Dante doesn't trust anyone to care or even want Dante as anything other than the perfect boss to the family, so he hides away all personality parts of him that don't fit the Boss of Falcons. He's made such a distinction between himself as "Dante" and "Falzone's Capo," that he often is unable to properly react to situation with the correct emotional cues because he believes he is feeling a certain way but is actually only convincing himself he feels that way because it's what's expected and proper.

As the boss of the Falzone, Dante is calm, ruthless, and a young man of few words that will only have a conversation when necessary. If you can picture a perfect mafia leader that is cold, always composed, ruthless and violent, and fearless while also being a straightforward and honorable individual as a protector of the people of the town, this sums up Dante very well. He follows the rules to the letter as they are written and leaves no room for leniency concerning them.

You won't be able to say anything else about him, though, and it'll make him seem like some kind of machine.

In truth, Dante is nothing like the mask he wears. Despite his reputation for being merciless towards this that cross him, Dante himself even as a young man hates the idea of killing and every addition person's blood that he gets on his hands getting him. He's afraid, unconfident, insecure, lonely and desperate for anyone to see him as a human being and not the boss of the Falzone Family. We come to find out throughout the story that Dante is sensitive and gentle, a young man of faith that wants to live a peaceful life doing the right thing with people he can connect with rather than have to be such a coldhearted individual. He is incredibly kind, pile and shy while also hyperaware of others and their shifts in mood when they have strong feelings, even though he isn't so good at figuring out what those feelings might be. He's a very typical Hood Boy, Boy Next Door.

He is honest (when he lies to the main character it doesn't go well and he goes above and beyond to apologize) although can't easily open up to express himself and has a tendency to only give as little information as possible which can cause miscommunication and uncertainties in what he's thinking and doing and why. He won't go out of his way to do anything that isn't absolutely necessary, even when he had someone to gain from it in the future and failing to act on it could put himself in a more difficult position at a later date.

As one of the church officials, Emilio, says to him: "You're too pure to be Mafia."

Dante's hobbies include reading and he loves eating sweets and has an aversion to bitter tastes. He also loves animals, especially cats, and is incredibly gentle towards them.

background

In 1923, the current head of the Falzone family, Silvio, was assassinated ending his leadership as the head of the family unexpectedly, leaving Dante to succeed him. It's not revealed until later in the story, but Silvio's death is the start of the turmoil that engulfs Burlone concerning the church and the Falcons. Although Dante was named the legitimate successor to the Falzone family, the position was not passed on properly due to his father never relating him the full secrets and information of the Falzone's duties to Dante. This was compounded by the fact the backup contingency when such things occur is to send their Disciple to assist Dante into fully bring able to perform his duties with all proper knowledge as would have been given if his father had passed the title normally. Unfortunately, the Church's Disciple that was set to interfere and right this situation failed to do so, leaving the Church split on their opinions and support of the rightful successor of the Falzone Family and its duties.

Although Dante was raised since birth to become the successor, it wasn't nearly enough for him to be able to properly navigate his newfound position with the rising prominence of Lao-Shu Mafia. Dante is able to secure Nicola, his cousin (and once raised as the previous heir of the Falzone before Dante was born,) as the family's underboss, which certainly assists Dante immensely both in task and execution as well as mental stability to Dante in his new role. Unfortunately, the Lao Shu are not the only thing that Dante must navigate in Burlone. Despite his best efforts due to what he sees as his own inadequacy, the Falzone family starts to slowly lose their power of Burlone over the next two years.

Things immediately escalate into more complicated matters when Dante is alerted that the current Key Maiden, Liliana Adornato, is in danger at the church where she has lived with his family watching over her since she was born. He arrives at the church in time to prevent her kidnapping and escape with her, but her arrival to the Falzone mansion sets off multiple additional troubles for both Dante and Liliana to face as Guardian and Key Maiden.

Key Information:
The Falzone Family: The Falzone family is one of three Mafia factions within the town of Burlone, and are the original rulers/guardians of Burlone by decree of the Church. The second family, the Visconti, in Burlone rose from a breakoff effort of the original Falzone Family and their strictly traditional values, and the third family are a small faction, known as the Lao Shu, of the larger Chinese Mafia. that have managed to create a distinguished presence of their own in the town. The Falzone still are the de facto family in power of Burlone at the start of the game in 1925. The Falzone Family have been ruling Burlone for a while, but were not always Mafia. Their true purpose has been to guard a holy relic of the church that can only be accessed by the blood of a pureblood Falzone and the Key Maiden. The Falzone Family was originally known as the Keepers of the Grave. They became a Mafia family to keep up with the power balanced and evolving times and the Mafia was considered to be the best way to uphold their original purpose of guardian the holy relic.
